About us

KSCA Profile

The Karnataka State Cricket Association (formerly the Mysore Cricket Association) is committed to develop Karnataka as the premier cricketing state in the country. It aims to take the game to mofussil areas of the state for development at the grassroots level and to continuously promote the welfare of its players. The KSCA was founded during the year 1933-34 and affiliated to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The Association made steady progress from 1934 to 1959 when the Silver Jubilee was celebrated to coincide with the visit of the Australian team to Bangalore to play against the Combined Universities XI. In the late Sixties the Association acquired its own cricket ground and the stadium now known as the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium came into being. Bangalore became a Test centre, and several memorable tests and One-Day International matches, including the 1996 World Cup quarter-finals, have taken place here. The Karnataka State Cricket Association has grown from strength to strength and is today one of the best-organised State Cricket Associations in the country. The Association today has over 4000 members from diverse backgrounds.

KSCA Stadium
History

Karnataka, erstwhile Mysore, has a proud history of producing many legendary cricketers of India and today has one of the strongest teams in the Ranji Trophy Elite Group. The Karnataka State Cricket Association was founded during the year 1933-34 and is affiliated to the Board of Control for Cricket in India. In the late 1960s, the Association acquired its own cricket ground and moved from the modest Central College grounds office to the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. Bengaluru became a Test centre, and several memorable tests and one-day internationals, including the 1996 World Cup quarter-finals, have taken place here. In the year 2011, seven World Cup matches were successfully hosted by the KSCA. Karnataka has won the Ranji Trophy, India's premier domestic championship six times and have finished as runners-up five times.

Karnataka has produced some of the best cricket players from India. Its most recent wins were in the 1998-99 and and 1997-98 seasons in which it emerged victorious in its finals against Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh respectively. It also defeated the Tamil Nadu cricket team in the Ranji Trophy season of 1995-96. Rahul Dravid, Javagal Srinath and Anil Kumble headed the success seen by Karnataka in the 1990s, thereby helping re-assert the Association position in the modern era. The rest of the Association's victories were evenly spread in the 1970s and 1980s and owed to the presence of stalwarts such as E.A.S. Prasanna, Syed Kirmani, B.S. Chandrasekhar and Roger Binny among others.

Karnataka has won the Irani Trophy, the one off annual match between the Ranji Trophy champions and the Rest of India, four times.

The Karnataka State Cricket Association is committed to develop Karnataka as the premier cricketing state in the country. It aims to take the game to mofussil areas of the state for development at the grassroots level and to continuously promote the welfare of players. The KSCA has grown from strength to strength and is today one of the best-organized State Cricket Associations in the country. The Association today has over 4000 members from diverse backgrounds.

Personalities like Rollo, P. Medappa, S.P. Rajagopalachari, Singaravelu Mudaliar, C.S. Pitchamuthu, J.B. Mallaradhya and several other prominent citizens of the state who functioned in various capacities in the Association, ensured a smooth running in the early years when there was no corporate sponsorship. From the 1950s onwards there emerged powerful leaders in S.A. Srinivasan and M. Chinnsawamy and Dr K Thimmapaiah. Today Karnataka is well represented in the Indian team by R Vinay Kumar, A Mithun and more recently S Aravind, thereby continuing its healthy contribution.

The stadium has comfortable seating and permanent seating is being added in phases.

The M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore is the heartbeat of Karnataka cricket. Aficianados say Karnataka cricket came of age in the 1950s under the strong leadership of S A Srinivasan and M Chinnaswamy after whom the stadium is now named. From the small room in the Central College grounds where the Karnataka State Cricket Association was founded in 1933, it moved to the centre of Bangalore City, MG Road, earlier the plush South Parade, with the building of the magnificent stadium in 1974.

Initially named the KSCA Stadium, it was the venue for the debuts of two West Indian batting greats, Vivian Richards and Gordon Greenidge. It was ironic yet symbolic of the state’s prowess that one of its legends, B. S. Chandrasekhar dismissed Richards who failed to read his leg break-and-googly bowling. The Chinnaswamy Stadium maintained its position as a favourite ground among visiting players and officials, with its well managed infrastructure and optimal viewing facility for the players.

The building of the stadium ushered in a whole new era for the former royal state of Mysore which won its first premier crown, the Ranji Trophy domestic championship in India, in 1974. Since then, Karnataka has won the Trophy six times, the most by any state after Mumbai and Delhi, capping it with a famous fight back after pundits had ruled out the team in the cliff-hanger final here in 1999.

The Chinnaswamy Stadium has a seating capacity of 50,000, and offers state-of-the-art facilities for players and the Press, as well as the National Cricket Academy established by the Board of Control for Cricket in India. The KSCA has embarked on an ambitious plan of upgrading the existing facility by increasing the seating capacity to 70,000 for the benefit of visitors and its passionate cricket followers. Bangaloreans will have an example of matchless infrastructure.
